Six Sigma Is All About Team Spirit
In business, time management is imperative. The more we utilize our time well, the more money we can save on production costs and eliminate waste. That being said, if the processes are well researched and thought through, there is an added health benefit: a reduction in stress.
A reduction in stress means a happier work environment. Stress is also the leading cause for employees calling out sick, which leads to staffing issues. Stress is the main cause for a multitude of maladies, including maladies of the spirit.
There is a big correlation between time and stress. If you enjoy your job, the clock seems to adjust itself. In other words, you have enough time to finish your task, or you have time left over — plus the added benefit of a job well done.
Team Spirit and Six Sigma
Six Sigma requires management roll up their sleeves and be part of the team. Working as a team means sharing in the bigger picture. It also means everyone does their individual share, and then comes together and exchanges feedback.
If we use the analogy of a sports team, everyone on the team is extremely important to winning the game. They all know the game plan — everyone has practiced, they all know who is good at what and are in charge of their respective roles (the first baseman is in charge of first base, the pitcher is in charge of pitching, etc.)
After the game, they discuss what they learned from what they saw, from their point of view. All this information is taken in, and from that they make a strategic plan for the next game. It is a good bet that the sports teams that consistently win, follow a Six Sigma-type methodology, whether they are aware of it or not.
In a successful sports team, members don’t want to disappoint their team members by calling out, because everyone matters!
